YSA Summer Science Program
YSA is here for all your summer science and technology adventures. Whether it be exploring the outdoors or being creative in our interactive, think-tank facilities, there is something for all our youth to experience real world science in a fun and nurturing environment. Every camp will involve hands-on lab activities, using technology, and field expeditions throughout the Cape Fear region, as well as collaborating with other non-profits in Wilmington to serve the downtown community and assist in conservation efforts in coastal habitats.

Before and after camp care is also available with drop-off as early as 7.30a and pick-up as late as 5.30p.

Marsh Mud & Microbes
June 15-19 - $180 Discover the biodiversity and marine science of muddy coastal habitats, learn how to research microbes and water quality first-hand by conducting field expeditions to pristine coastal salt marshes, use science techniques to create microbial art, and learn how you can use science and technology to protect these habitats. |
Aussie Wildlife & Traditions
June 22-26 - $180 Discover wildlife and scientific discoveries from 'Downunder' from a true blue Aussie! Learn about the science of bushfires. Come and engineer a boomerang, play a didgeridoo, play cricket and footy, and experience Aussie lingo and other traditions. Fair dinkum fun for all! |
Potions & Pyrotechnics
June 29 - July 3 - $180 Experience the fun of chemistry just in time for July 4! Campers will personally conduct many visually dynamic experiments to show how chemistry has been used to make important discoveries and used by society to solve problems in our everyday lives. Promises to be an "explosive" experience! |
Atmospheric Explorers I & II
Wk 1: July 6-10 Wk 2: July 13-17 $180/week, 1 or 2 week options Ever wanted to launch a weather balloon to near-space? Well look no further with an action packed two weeks of discovery of what makes our atmosphere tick when it comes to weather and climate patterns. Learn how hurricanes form, engineer and launch a weather balloon, create technology to measure gases and clouds in the stratosphere, and create a short film on climate impacts on society. Spaces limited to 8 campers so be sure to sign up quickly. |
Sea Turtle Science
July 20-24 - $250 Sea turtles are simply fascinating creatures. Experience how to research sea turtles by interacting with real-world marine scientists to research their biology and habitats, and learn how to implement strategies to help conserve endangered sea turtle species. Camp includes an extended field trip (late arrival back at YSA) to Bald Head Island to visit a sea turtle nest and experience what it is like to be a sea turtle scientist for the day. |
Jellyfish & Ocean Drifters
July 27-31 - $180 Come and experience the beautiful coastal open ocean with a global expert on jellyfish and plankton. Experience the fun of "jellyfishing" at the beach, construct kits to keep jellies at home, create jellyfish art to be displayed at an exhibition, perform lab experiments to discover how jellies are impacted by climate change.....and lots more! |
