Can you help us reach our goal of $21,000 by investing in our youth as future leaders in our community?
Together, we can continue to grow as a key provider of science enrichment and mentorship for our youth, particularly Black and Latinx youth that do not have equal opportunities in science.

Sponsorship = Future Investment in Our Youth
YSA is committed to our youth for a better future......

YSA is committed to empowering youth of all backgrounds to be community ambassadors of science and technology as future leaders in our community.
Science is a powerful tool for solving issues and creating discoveries that benefit society, yet Black and Latinx students enrolled in downtown Title I schools are not provided the same resources to succeed in their academics - math, science and reading - compared to other public schools in New Hanover County. 50% of these students live in poverty and most will never have the opportunity to experience and develop the science and technology skills to benefit their communities. YSA's interactive "think-tank" research facility is conveniently located in downtown Wilmington and is dedicated to building a culture and collaborative science network for our youth to benefit career development and a sustainable community.

A Year of Growth in the CommunityLast year, YSA served over 400 youth in real-world science experiences through its after-school, home-school, homework help, and summer enrichment programs, including Code Girls and the Youth CAUSE Initiative. Furthermore, we are proud to have served the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic by providing youth over 100 hours of free access to engaging virtual lessons.
To support the continued growth and success of these programs, science and technology must be made equally accessible to youth of all backgrounds, regardless of their race or gender identity. Last year, YSA made huge strides in meeting these diversity objectives by supporting 65% Black and Latinx students and having 60% female participation in its core programs.

Our Future Vision: Targets and Milestones for 2020-21"The impact of our work can be seen everywhere in the awareness our young scientists are bringing to downtown Wilmington about urban sustainability and other community issues, in making advances in high-level scientific research, but most importantly, in the faces of those youth who explore Wilmington’s waterways, marshes, and urban areas with Dr. Rob and our team of educators and volunteers. The impacts to these children’s lives goes beyond a simple extracurricular activity: they are learning to be effective communicators and leaders in their families, schools, and community."
