Following the introductory week, all groups will work together on an intermediate level coding research project in a 2-3 week ‘Hackathon’. Each group may choose their coding project from a list of public health and climate change themes. Each group will present their projects at the Code Girls Awards Ceremony on Friday July 31 from 6-8pm.
When do workshops run?
Summer workshops are all conducted online with morning and afternoon sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting the week of July 6. The schedule of events will be posted soon on this page.
Do I need to have my own computer?
Students do not need to purchase or own a computer to participate in Code Girls. YSA will provide full access to computers, printers, internet, software and other technology used in the program. Participants are welcome to use their own laptops if they desire but this is not a requirement.
How do I find out more about Code Girls?
A Code Girls information session will be held for applicants and their parents on Zoom on Thursday June 18 at 6pm. Applicants are not required to attend this information session, but are encouraged to attend as it is a great opportunity to ask specific questions about the program. To register for the webinar please contact Dr. Rob at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WHY is code girls not in person?
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to provide in-person instruction for the Code Girls program this summer. Health and safety of our staff, students and their families, and our Harrelson Center partners are our priority, and it is important that everyone involved in YSA exhibits community citizenship. Our spring virtual program was very successful, and I would encourage all girls to get involved in this virtual interactive experience.
