Code Niñas Returning to Glow Academy!We are excited to bring the Code Niñas program to GLOW Academy starting Wednesday November 3. Classes will run afterschool every Wednesday 3.45p-5p at the GLOW Campus located at 4100 Sunglow Dr. in Wilmington. Classes will start February 1 and be conducted in 4-6 week modules where students will work on small data science and coding projects that emphasize the fundamentals of basic to intermediate level coding and app-based development. No prior experience necessary, just a love for computer science and having a good time along the way!
This is a free program and spaces are limited to 20 girls, with a few spaces available for non-GLOW girl students, so be sure to register soon to secure your spot. |

What is Code Niñas?Code Niñas is the first program of its kind in Wilmington, providing a series of fun and interactive workshops for girls in the world of information technology and computer science. Girls are the future leaders of science and technology, and by participating in Code Girls, students will gain confidence and skills in the fundamentals of computer building and coding with Python, web development, database management, and so much more. Students will experience real-world subject matter, and more importantly how to apply skills learned in their everyday life and future career paths. Code Girls will empower girls and minorities to be equal participants and future leaders in computer sciences and STEM learning. It promises to be a fun, inspiring, and rewarding experience for all!

FAQ:Who can apply?
Code Girls is open to any girl 8 years or older, and we encourage any girl to apply regardless if they have specific interests in learning coding and new technology or whether they simply want to try something new and unique. Programs are free for all participants. For questions on eligibility please contact Dr. Rob at [email protected].
HOW DO I APPLY?
Applicants should complete the online program registration form and select "Code Niñas" to be considered for the spring 2023 program. The form is straightforward and should take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
What happens once I have submitted my application?
Following submission of this form, a member of the YSA team will reach out with confirmation and more details on the program.
What is required of participants in the Code Girls program
During the program, students will learn the fundamentals of coding working in small teams and be mentored by early career women in computer science and technology. If new to the program, each participant will complete one week of beginner level instruction in computer coding and basic web design. Following the introductory week, all groups will work together on an intermediate level coding research project. Each group may choose their coding project from a list of public health and climate change themes. Each group will present their projects at the Earth Day Summit on Saturday April 22, 2023 at GLOW Academy.
When do workshops run?
Classes are all conducted in-person at GLOW Academy each Wednesday from 3.45p-5p. The schedule of events will be posted soon on this page.
Do I need to have my own computer?
Students do not need to purchase or own a computer to participate in Code Girls. YSA will provide full access to computers, printers, internet, software and other technology used in the program. Participants are welcome to use their own laptops if they desire but this is not a requirement.
How do I find out more about Code Girls?
A Code Girls information session will be held for applicants and their parents at a date to be determined in late January. Applicants are not required to attend this information session, but are encouraged to attend as it is a great opportunity to ask specific questions about the program.
