Cape Fear Water Quality

The Cape Fear River is polluted with nitrates and chemicals like cleaning supplies. So what!?

If this pollution keeps up, then our health (and animal health) will be negatively impacted by chemical poisoning and nitrate taking up all the river’s oxygen. Using python code, I created a graph that views how water pollution has changed from 1996 up to 2022.

I found that nitrate levels are increasing and metals have not been in the water for quite a few years. I also tested water from different sources with testing strips. Interestingly, when I collected the data there was not a high level of nitrate, yet this was a different sampling method.  We need to stop polluting and incorrectly disposing of our chemicals into our water. Save the Cape Fear!
