​Bonnie Mitchell

Bonnie Mitchell serves as the Coastal Education Coordinator for the North Carolina Coastal Federation, where she develops and leads hands-on environmental education programs across southeastern NC. With a background in marine biology and over a decade of experience in environmental education and nonprofit work, she specializes in connecting communities to the coast through field-based learning, partnerships, and volunteer engagement.

Bonnie became involved with the Young Scientist Academy through her work at the Federation, where she helped organize estuary explorations that bring YSA students out into the salt marsh to experience science in action. As a YSA Board Member and member of the Fundraising Committee, Bonnie contributes her knowledge of nonprofit program development, outreach strategy, and community engagement.

A fun fact about Bonnie: she is founding her own nonprofit, Coastal Carolina Rabbit Rescue, to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned domestic rabbits across coastal North Carolina.
