2017 YOUNG scientist academy programs
**YSA will return in Spring 2018**
YSA Science Fair Fun
Open to grades 3-8.
Schedule: 2.45-3.30 - Creative Free Time &
3.30-5.00 - YSA Research Time
5.00-5.30 - Cleanup & Pickup
Students will learn about oceanography, climate and human interactions by conducting lab experiments and fieldwork on a variety of topics including:
Under the supervision of Dr. Rob and his team of marine biologists, students will conduct research in small collaborative teams emphasizing different STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) disciplines. These experiences will provide first-hand experiences learning the process of science as conducted by professional researchers.
Projects conducted at YSA will prepare students to enter the NC Science and Engineering Fair (February 2018), if they wish. Projects will be child-led under the mentorship of YSA. We will provide scientific materials and guidance on professional-level experimental design, statistical analysis, and communication of results. The students will practice presenting the results of their research to the general public at an outreach event.
These experiences will be valuable for future Science Fair and high school projects, and beyond.
